QI-ROG-XXX

The Rogowski coil is an electrical device for measuring AC currents and current pulses.

It consists of a helical coil of wire on a flexible support to create a coil (solenoid) of a suitable length.

What are the advantages of the coil?

  • The main advantage of the Rogowski coil compared to other measuring methods (current transformers or CT, Hall probe sensors, etc.) is that the probe is flexible and deformable, allowing it to be wrapped around a live conductor without disturbing it (measurement is non-invasive, it is safe to use).
  • As the Rogowski coil is not wrapped around a metal core, it has low inductance allowing it to effectively measure fast-changing currents which vary over time.
  • Furthermore, because it does not have an iron core to saturate, it is highly linear when subjected to large currents.
  • A well-constructed Rogowski coil with equidistant turns is hardly ever affected by electromagnetic interference.
  • This kind of probe can be used with our QE-POWER-T three-phase power meter or with QE-CURRENT-485, the universal current converter.
